Last week I focused on toxicity and consumerism, since our WJFF film
festival was showing films on both topics. (not unrelated topics)
Last week happened to be the second anniversary for the beginnings
of our official war on Iraq. People are worried and worn out about the
war, and want times to just forget. Yet as Sonja said this morning to me,
Im not willing to let people forget. When I began my setlist this morning
at 5 am, the cost of the war from : http://costofwar.com/
:
158,608,429,000 These are estimates from Congressional appropriations.
Last Monday morning at 8am, when I thought of this idea it was running
around 157,517,884,000.
(The thousands scroll several a second and are impossible to nail.)
The site compares the cost to what we could have done for the following
areas,Ive provided some national figures 6 am today:
PRE-SCHOOL :21,008, 212 kids into aa year of head start
KIDS' HEALTH :94,997,335 kids with a year of health insurance
PUBLIC EDUCATION 2,748,777 additional school teachers for a year
COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS :7,689,100
PUBLIC HOUSING: 1,428,149 units
WORLD HUNGER: fully funded all global hunger efforts for 6 full
years
AIDS EPIDEMIC: all aids efforts gloabaly for 15 years
WORLD IMMUNIZATION: every child in the world has basic immunizations
for 52 years
( and they are able to show statewide, nationally and even some counties.
Ulster is there, Sullivan is not)
So how do we make these decisions.

Howard Zinn ( historian,
playwright, and social activist)
Quote: "Civil disobedience.
. . is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is
that numbers of people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of the
leaders of their government and have gone to war, and millions have been
killed because of this obedience. . . Our problem is that people are obedient
while the jails are full of petty thieves, and all the while the grand
thieves are running the country. That's our problem."

"Failure to Quit", p.45
Act of disobediance began the world, act of obedience will end it

We should no longer accept the counsel
of those who tell us that we must fill our world with poisonous chemicals,
we
should look around and see what other
