Folksingers do a lot of talking on new releases

Utah Phillips - Songbook Introduction 323
Starlight on the Rails - Daemon Records

This work is an amazing  compilation of the travels and songs made by Utah Phillips. He writes from hobo travel, where the leaving of a new song pays for a meal. Each cut has its own introductary story which birthed each song like family heirlooms. He takes us with him: protesting the execution of an unfortunate Chicano boy, finding a dead hobo in a boxcar, feeding the hungry, singing struggles of the downtrodden, the weak, the under- privileged, and less fortunate, making heroes out of everyday people.

that came from a tamarack tour riding the canal and playing off a boat to the audiences on shore along the route.
they researched the history of the canal and wrote many tunes for it. Currently the head of the Ottawa Folk centre
is working on a tour this fall of the same idea. http://www.interlog.com/%7Epmsinc/

Also not on the theme, but a newly mailed single. James was on the Tamarack Rideau tour

We should no longer accept the counsel of those who tell us that we must fill our world with poisonous chemicals, we should look around and see what other course is open to us."        Rachel Carson
