The Rosendale Theatre screens “BEANS,” A COMING OF AGE FILM ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12 at 7:00PM.

The Oka Crisis of 1990 was an explosive struggle over Indian land rights in Quebec, Canada. The town of Oka wanted to expand a golf course on to a Mohawk burial ground, sparking over two months of confrontation and violence. Mohawk writer and director, Tracy Deer, lived through this crisis as an adolescent, and created BEANS out of her experience

The evening will open with drumming and song by the Cloud Breakers and Red Feather Singers of the Association of Native Americans of the Mid-Hudson Valley (ANA). The film will be followed by a discussion, led by noted indigenous scholar Evan Pritchard.
