Liberty High School has a new principal. Stephen Matuszak, who has served as assistant principal since April 2020, will officially step into the role on July 1, replacing Dr. Derek Adams, who was recently named assistant superintendent.
Matuszak brings years of experience in the education system to his new position. He grew up in the Binghamton, New York, area and began his career as a substitute teacher in the Maine-Endwell school district after earning his bachelor’s degree in secondary education with a focus on social studies from Mansfield University in Pennsylvania.
In 2007, he moved to Sullivan County to take on a teaching position at RJK Middle School in the Monticello Central School District, where he taught seventh and eighth-grade social studies and served as a coach. He finished his time at RJK as the school’s behavior specialist. During this time, he also pursued further education, earning a master’s degree in curriculum development and design from the University of Scranton and a certificate of advanced studies in educational leadership from SUNY New Paltz in 2019.
Matuszak, a Liberty resident, is married and has two daughters.
