PennDOT to Launch Cold-In-Place Recycling Project on Route 2002 in Pike County Starting June 26

Posted on June 25, 2025 by Tim Bruno

Dunmore, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that its Pike County maintenance forces will begin a cold-in-place recycling project on Route 2002 (Wilson Hill Road) in Delaware Township starting Thursday, June 26, with work continuing into early July.

To facilitate the project, a 6.2-mile detour will be in effect:

  • Drivers will begin the detour at the intersection of Route 348 (Township Road/Mary Stuart Road) and Wilson Hill Road.
  • From there, travel east on Wilson Hill Road to Route 2001 (Milford Hill Road) and make a right.
  • Continue north on Route 2001 to Route 2004 (Silver Lake Road)/Route 739 and turn right.
  • At the intersection of Route 739 and Route 209, turn right again.
  • Wilson Hill Road is on the right.

The cold-in-place recycling process involves milling the existing asphalt, mixing it with a stabilizing agent, and reapplying it to the roadway, which helps eliminate cracks, potholes, and surface defects while creating a smoother ride.

According to PennDOT, the method offers several benefits:

  • Extends the life of existing pavement
  • Saves costs compared to full reconstruction
  • Reduces the use of new materials and conserves energy

Motorists are encouraged to plan for possible delays and check current traffic conditions via 511PA.com or the 511PA mobile app, available for both iPhone and Android. The service provides 24/7 access to traffic updates, weather forecasts, speed info, and over 1,000 traffic cameras statewide.
