Liberty, NY – People interested in volunteering their time and skills are invited to attend the first Sullivan County Volunteer Fair. The event will take place on Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cornell Cooperative Extension, located at 64 Ferndale-Loomis Road in Liberty.
The fair will feature approximately 20 volunteer organizations seeking to recruit new members. “What they’re looking for – and who we really want to attend – are people with a giving spirit,” said Sullivan County Volunteer Program Coordinator Monika Roosa. Everyone is welcome, regardless of age or ability!
Organizations are seeking individuals with a variety of skills and time commitments. Some opportunities require only an hour or two of volunteer work per month. Deskilled positions, such as filing paperwork or data entry, are also available. Volunteers can perform various tasks beyond lifting, standing, or driving, including filing, data entry, and sharing knowledge.
“All we’re asking is for a chance to meet and talk – potential volunteers can then make up their own minds of what they want to do,” affirmed Roosa. “Let’s figure this out together!”
Those interested in attending the Volunteer Fair can contact Monika Roosa at 845-807-0255 or monika.roosa@sullivanny.gov.
Most of the cemeteries can use volunteers; they need people on the Board to oversee the cemeteries and could also help with fundraising.
