Ulster County Pool Reopens June 14 After Repairs

Posted on May 14, 2025 by Tim Bruno

KINGSTON, NY – The Ulster County Pool in New Paltz will reopen on Saturday, June 14, for the summer season, following its closure last year due to underground piping failures. The pool underwent repairs and is ready to welcome swimmers, according to a statement from Ulster County.

To ensure the pool’s longevity, extensive renovations funded by a $3.92 million grant from Governor Kathy Hochul’s NY SWIMS initiative will commence after this season concludes.

In addition to the reopening, Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger announced free pool access for seniors and families in the county who receive Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. A free season pass requires presentation of a valid Medicaid or SNAP benefit card and photo ID showing Ulster County residency. The pool will issue passes.

“We’re excited to re-open the County pool, which was greatly missed last year while repairs were being made,” said Metzger in a statement. “It is a safe, affordable, and fun way to beat the heat of summer, get some exercise, and spend time with friends and family, and I look forward to seeing lots of happy faces in the pool!”

The New Paltz Pool Complex operates from June 14 to September 1. The complex includes a main pool, a kiddie pool, and a splash pad.

Upgrades, including a new filtration system, pool deck, and gutter system, will begin after the pool closes for the season. Additionally, zero-depth entry ramps and a modern spray ground will be installed. The upgrades are funded by the $3.92 million NY SWIMS grant. The County secured a separate NY SWIMS grant for renovations to the Ellenville/Wawarsing community pool.
