A Monticello man was sentenced to nine years in prison on Wednesday for possessing fentanyl with the intent to sell the drug, according the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office.
Jacob McCoy, 50, was found guilty of two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance on July 17, 2024.
On Nov. 28, 2023, McCoy was found to be in possession of over two ounces of fentanyl, according to the DA’s office. He was convicted and sentenced to nine years in prison for criminal possession of a controlled substance.
“The maximum sentence allowed by law reflects our community’s commitment to stop the free-flow of fentanyl onto our streets that has disproportionately ravaged Sullivan County,” said Sullivan County District Attorney Brian P. Conaty. “Since taking the helm of the District Attorney’s Office I have made it our mission to end this scourge once and for all. I, again, want to thank the Sullivan County Jury for their attention and dedication to this case as well as the members of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office Investigators for their dedicated efforts to bring the defendant to justice.”
Following his release, McCoy will serve two years of post-release supervision.
