A 39-year-old man was found dead at the Knights Inn in Liberty, N.Y. on Sept. 15, according to the Village of Liberty Police Department.
Village of Liberty Police Chief Steven D’Agata confirmed that arriving officers responded to a report of an unresponsive individual and found a man dead in a hotel room on Monday.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that individual suffered a fatal self-inflicted gun shot wound. The incident is still under investigation,” said D’Agata.
Sullivan County’s Communications Director Dan Hust confirmed the individual was not a client of the county’s emergency housing services. While the Knights Inn is one of several hotels Sullivan County uses for temporary housing placements, this person was not among those placed there by the county. “The County encourages anyone contemplating suicide to call 988 any time, any day – someone is waiting to listen, talk and help,” said Hust.
This is a developing story and may be updated as more information becomes available.
If you are in crisis, you can reach out to the 988 Lifeline by calling 988. The hotline is available 24 hours a day.
