Sullivan County operates warming shelters in Liberty and Monticello.
“We intend to operate the warming centers from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. on any night the National Weather Service forecasts an overnight low temperature of 15 degrees Fahrenheit or less. This provides a last-ditch supplement to the shelter services we already provide when temperatures dip below freezing. Tonight’s forecast low was 13 degrees Fahrenheit on January 3rd so the shelters were opening for the first time this season,” confirmed Health & Family Services Commissioner John Liddle.
Shelter locations are:
- United Methodist Church, 170 North Main Street, Liberty
- Ted Stroebele Recreation Center, 2 Jefferson Street, Monticello
PLEASE NOTE: Masks are required due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
