A significant winter storm will affect the Sullivan Catskills and Northeastern Pennsylvania area. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from Thursday at 10 am until Friday at 7 pm.
According to the National Weather Service meteorologist Bryan Greenblatt, the Sullivan Catskills can see up to 12 inches of snow.
“The snow starts to move in by the late afternoon mid to late afternoon tomorrow on Thursday and then becomes steadier and heavier at times. Thursday night through the day on Friday. You will have the snow mixed with rain, snow and sleet at times late morning into the early afternoon before it changes back over to snow on Friday. Overall, snow accumulations you’re looking at generally about eight to 12 inches. Of course the higher amounts that we found in the in the Catskills and the higher elevations and the lower amounts of the at the lower elevations. This will be a kind of a heavier wet snow. So there’s definitely power outages or possibility especially with a little bit of wind.”
Greenblatt says during this winter storm if you do not have to be on the road, stay home.
“If you can stay off the roads, definitely do so. If you do have to travel, definitely take it slow and leave plenty of space between you and a car in front of you.”
And in Pike and Southern Wayne Counties, five to seven inches of snow is possible, with more in higher elevations.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is asking motorists to exercise caution if on the road, as sleet and freezing rain will happen overnight on Wednesday into Thursday. Road crews will be working throughout the night to prepare for the upcoming storm, with pre-treating roadways where necessary.
Additionally, the agencies will implement various speed and vehicle restrictions throughout the storm.
