Severe flooding wreaked havoc in New York’s Hudson Valley following heavy rainfall, resulting in the loss of one life, inundated roadways, and the need for road closures on Sunday evening.
The National Weather Service issued urgent flash flood warnings for various areas in southeastern New York, classifying the situation as “life threatening.”
Steven M. Neuhaus, the Orange County executive, confirmed the unfortunate death caused by the flooding.
The impact of the flooding was evident as State Route 9W became submerged, and sections of the Palisades Interstate Parkway were so heavily saturated that closures were enforced, according to a statement from the New York State Police. Authorities urged the public to avoid the parkway for their own safety.
