The Villa Roma Resort and Conference Center in Callicoon, NY, has been sold. After three years of negotiation, Fay Hospitality Catskills LLC purchased the property for $17.15 million, saying they have big plans for improvements.
The Italian-themed resort, spanning 434 acres, has been under the ownership of Marty Passante since 1970. Tragically, Passante passed away three days after the sale.
Alex Kieler, Assistant Editor for the Sullivan County Democrat, spoke about the impact of this sale on the community and employees.

My first time there was 54 years ago with my family. there was only the lodge and the main house. The nightclub was in the main house near the kitchen. The night club was very small, but we had the best times with Sal Richards the comedian and singer and his family everyday in the nightclub and at the pool.I went there on vacation with my whole family for many years with all the changes. The best time were in the 1970’s.
What happens to the timeshare owners?
I have been a time share owner for 19 years . For the past 10 years it has been going down hill. They claimed to be 5 Star Resort far from it. The past three years they have done away with the timeshare breakfast meetings praising how great Villa Roma is. Not surprised. Room, roads, entertainment need so many improvements. I can only say this because I own another timeshare that is 5 star compared to Villa Roma. Maintenance keeps going up and nothing is improved. A big disgrace. I plan on banking my week and not going back to Villa Roma.
