The Town of Highland(NY) Planning Board has extended the deadline for written comments on the controversial Camp FIMFO development application to March 11, 2025. The decision was made during the Planning Board’s monthly meeting on January 22, 2025, in response to community requests and legal concerns raised by environmental groups.
The extension follows ongoing calls from the Delaware Riverkeeper Network and local partners to allow more time for residents and concerned citizens to thoroughly review the environmental impacts of the proposed development. The Camp FIMFO project seeks to transform an existing campground along the Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River Corridor into an camping resort, with a water park, mini golf, and various food and beverage facilities.
“The public deserves ample time to assess the full scope of this project, which has the potential to severely disrupt a treasured part of our natural landscape,” said Maya van Rossum, the Delaware Riverkeeper and leader of the Delaware Riverkeeper Network. “This extension is a step in the right direction, but it’s important to note that the Planning Board should have made this decision sooner to respect the individuals who have already invested their time in the comment process.”
Originally set to close on January 10, 2025, the comment period will now remain open for an additional 60 days, providing stakeholders more time to examine the project’s potential environmental consequences and provide input.
The Planning Board has also indicated that they will continue to consider community input as they move forward with their review of the project.
