MILFORD, Pa. — In honor of Veterans Day, Pike County will illuminate its buildings green throughout November as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a national initiative that raises awareness of the challenges many veterans face and highlights resources available at the county, state and federal levels.
The campaign, led by the National Association of Counties (NACo), is now in its fifth year and is expected to involve hundreds of counties nationwide. Pike County officials said the effort underscores the role of counties in assisting veterans, including helping former service members access more than $52 billion in federal health, disability and compensation benefits annually.
“Pike County is proud to once again participate in Operation Green Light, a vital initiative that unites counties across the nation in support of our veterans,” said Jesiah Schrader, Director of Pike County Veterans Affairs. “Our office remains dedicated to doing all we can to support those who have served. It is our duty to honor their service and express our gratitude.”
Residents, businesses and community organizations are encouraged to join the effort by replacing one light bulb with a green bulb. Lights can be placed outside for neighbors and passersby to see or inside to spark conversation with friends. NACo says the simple gesture lets veterans know they are “seen, appreciated and supported.”
“Operation Green Light is an opportunity to thank veterans for both their service to our nation and their contributions to our communities,” said Matthew Chase, NACo executive director. “With hundreds of counties coming together to light up everything from courthouses to bridges, we know veterans will see and feel our gratitude for their selflessness and courage.”
Counties and residents across the country are encouraged to share their participation on social media using #OperationGreenLight. More information is available at www.naco.org/program/operation-green-light-veterans.
