The Town of Fallsburg has announced a new water conservation notice, which will remain in effect until Monday, August 5, 2024. This is the third such notice issued this summer.
The town’s Water Department reported on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, that the LaVista Drive water tanks are critically low and may not be able to handle the expected demand this weekend. The issue arose due to the Sullivan Correctional Facility conducting its annual water test, which led to several leaks in their system. This increased water usage at the facility significantly, hindering the LaVista Drive tanks from refilling adequately.
The Fallsburg Water Department is working with Sullivan Correctional Facility to resolve the issue, but the town has warned that restoring the tank levels fully will require additional efforts. In the meantime, the town is urging residents to inspect their properties for water leaks and to reduce water consumption. They are specifically asked to minimize non-essential water use, such as car washing and lawn watering.
A similar notice was issued earlier this summer, on July 15, 2024, when the South Fallsburg tanks were depleted due to blocked water valves and a significant leak under State Route 42.
