Have you met Kusar Grace yet? Kusar is the host of one of WJFF Radio Catskill’s most popular shows, Music Emporium!
Music Emporium has been going strong now for 12 years and if you haven’t heard Kusar’s entertaining mix of contemporary jazz, R&B, soul, and funk, tune in on Tuesdays 7 to 9 pm – or anytime on wjffradio.org.
Kusar came to WJFF almost by accident. Having moved to Sullivan County to be near family, he was helping out a friend in the old Oracle bookstore in Liberty, where he happened to hear a tape of Liberty Green’s WJFF program, Soul Spectrum. It was like nothing he had heard on the air in Sullivan County and he eventually started listening to everything on WJFF. “It wasn’t just the music. The news, the talk shows, it was stuff I just wasn’t hearing anywhere else,” he says.
Besides working with WJFF, Kusar has remained deeply involved in community outreach, much of it still involving young people. A lot of this has been interrupted by COVID-19, but Kusar is eager to get back to face-to-face contact with his kids, whether it’s coaching basketball or teaching marching band drums.
He particularly enjoys working with youngsters on scraper bikes, old bicycles that are tricked out with vibrant colors, modified parts, and other enhancements that reflect the personality of each owner. “I hope to be back in action soon,” he says.
