Living Jazz, Fridays at Noon.
This week’s “Living Jazz” show will mainly focus on the recent music of alto sax player and composer Miguel Zenon, who has a wonderful new album coming out today. We’ll hear tunes from the new album, Musica de las Americas, and a number of other studio and live albums featuring Zenon as leader and sideman. Zenon, a native of Puerto Rico and MacArthur “Genius Award” recipient, is deep into exploring traditional and popular music from across the Americas through the prism of jazz.
We’ll also celebrate the birthdays of two other sax greats, Wayne Shorter and Lester Young, and note the passing of Jaime Branch, the brilliant young trumpeter. She died a few days ago at her home in Red Hook, Brooklyn, at the age of 39.
“Living Jazz” airs Fridays from noon to 2 p.m. on WJFF, 90.5 F.M., and streams online at wjffradio.org
