Living Jazz, Fridays at Noon.
This week’s “Living Jazz” show will celebrate the 105th anniversary of the birth of Thelonious Monk, who is often described as the most-recorded composer in jazz history. We’ll explore Monk’s influence on contemporary artists such as pianists Fred Hersch, Frank Kimbrough, and Helen Sung, and guitarists Miles Okazaki and Bill Frisell. We’ll also check out recordings by a diverse cross-section of jazz greats, ranging from Sonny Rollins, Bud Powell, John Coltrane and Carla Bley, to pioneering avant garde sax players Steve Lacy and Anthony Braxton.
“Living Jazz” airs Fridays from noon to 2 p.m. on WJFF, 90.5 F.M., and streams online at wjffradio.org
