At its recent organizational meeting, the Livingston Manor-Roscoe Central School District Board of Education voted to continue existing local tax exemptions for veterans, senior citizens, and those who have made capital improvements to their homes. These exemptions, which were offered by the former Livingston Manor and Roscoe school districts, would have expired with the dissolution of the separate districts if the board had not taken action.
The board passed resolutions preserving Veterans Exemption (RPTL 458(a)), Senior Citizen Exemption (RPTL 467), and the Capital Improvement on Residential Buildings exemption (RPTL S 421(f)).
Taxpayers currently receiving these exemptions will not need to take any action due to the merger. However, those required to recertify annually must continue to do so.
In a positive development for residents of the former Roscoe CSD, the Veterans Exemption will now be available to qualified individuals. Eligible veterans must contact their local assessor by March 1, 2025, to complete the necessary paperwork.
