A 56-year-old Monticello woman was killed Thursday afternoon after being struck by a pickup truck on a State Route 42 roundabout that connects to the Route 17 westbound on-ramp, state police said.
Troopers from the Wurtsboro and Liberty barracks responded around 4:11 p.m. Sept. 18 following reports of the collision.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 2012 Ford pickup truck driven by Gino R. Giordano, 24, of Shohola, Pennsylvania, was traveling southbound on Route 42. As the vehicle approached the roundabout’s yield sign and attempted to take the first exit onto the Route 17 westbound on-ramp, it struck the pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.
The victim, Ken Ghana Parsons, sustained life-threatening injuries. Troopers and emergency responders administered life-saving measures at the scene before she was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
State police continue to investigate the crash, including factors leading up to the collision. No charges have been reported at this time.
