MILFORD, PA — Pike County residents can now purchase their 2026 dog licenses at the Pike County Treasurer’s Office, officials said. By law, all dogs must be licensed by Jan. 1 of each year unless a lifetime license has been obtained.
In Pennsylvania, dogs must be licensed at the time of purchase or adoption (earliest at 8 weeks old) or by three months of age if no transfer of ownership has occurred. Failure to obtain a license can result in fines up to $500, plus court costs.
The application is available on the Treasurer’s Office website at www.pikepa.org/treasurer or can be picked up in person at 506 Broad Street, Milford.
Officials said fees for the 2026 licensing year have increased slightly. An annual license now costs $10.80, while a lifetime license is $52.80. Discounts are available for older adults and individuals with disabilities.
Licensing benefits include:
- Compliance with state law for dogs three months and older.
- Faster recovery of lost pets through proper identification.
- Avoidance of fines up to $500 for unlicensed dogs.
- Support for animal control, shelters, and statewide dog welfare programs.
