Pike County Hosts Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event November 8

MILFORD, PA (October 21, 2025) — Pike County residents are encouraged to safely dispose of household hazardous waste at the county’s upcoming Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event, scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shohola Elementary School, 940 Twin Lakes Road, Shohola, PA. The event will be held rain or shine.

Organized by the Pike County Office of Planning & Mapping, this annual event helps residents responsibly dispose of toxic, flammable, and otherwise harmful materials commonly found in homes and garages. Proper hazardous waste disposal is a critical step in protecting Pike County’s pristine natural resources, including its groundwater, forests, and streams.

The event is open only to Pike County residents and property owners, and hazardous waste from businesses will not be accepted. Advance registration is required, and the cost is $30 per vehicle, with participation limited to 300 vehicles.

Residents can register online at www.pikepa.org/recycling or in person at the Pike County Planning & Mapping Office for those wishing to pay by cash or check.

All materials must be brought in their original containers and should not be mixed. Containers larger than five gallons will not be accepted.

Accepted Items

  • Acids

  • Adhesives, glues, epoxies

  • Aerosol cans

  • Batteries (no alkaline)

  • Car products (motor oil, antifreeze, etc.)

  • Fire extinguishers

  • Fluorescent bulbs (must be intact)

  • Fuels, gasoline, kerosene (gas cans returned upon request)

  • Household cleaners

  • Mercury and mercury-containing devices

  • Paints, stains, varnishes, sealers

  • Pesticides, fertilizers, mothballs

  • Pool chemicals

  • Pressurized canisters and propane cylinders

Items Not Accepted

  • Appliances and electronics

  • Ammunition or explosives

  • Biological or commercial waste

  • Construction debris

  • Flares, radioactive material

  • Tires or household garbage

  • Unidentified waste or used absorbent material

Residents are urged to plan ahead and register early to secure a spot. Proper hazardous waste management reduces contamination risks and promotes a cleaner, safer community.
