The Village of Liberty Police Department arrested two registered sex offenders for violating the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act on January 31 and February 1, 2023.
On January 4, 2023, Matthew Sanders, 34, was arrested in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, for failing to appear in Sullivan County Court.
Sanders was initially arrested by the Village of Liberty Police Department on October 29th, 2022, and was later indicted for failing to register as a sex offender. He failed to appear in court and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest by the Honorable Jim Farrell.
After being apprehended in Honesdale, PA, Sanders was detained in Wayne County Jail pending extradition hearings. On January 31st, 2023 Sanders was turned over to the Village of Liberty Police Department and brought before the Sullivan County Court, where he was remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail.
On February 1st, 2023, Jacob Bodoh, 43, of Liberty, was arrested after an investigation into his failure to register and verify his address. He was charged with a felony and remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail by the Town of Liberty Court Judge, Honorable Judge Johnstone.
The New York State Sex Offender Registration Act requires individuals who have been convicted of sex crimes to register with the state and keep their information updated, including their addresses.
