(SEPT. 21) Many psychologists are calling the anxiety, stress, and sadness of the COVID-19 pandemic a collective grief. Dr. Karla Vermeulen, Deputy Director of the Institute for Disaster Mental Health at SUNY New Paltz explains that grief can come from losing loved ones, but also from losing employment, stability, and security. Dr. Vermeulen also discusses how the ‘endless now’ of this protracted crisis takes a toll, and the importance of accepting grief and forgetting “closure.”
