John Liddle, Sullivan County Commissioner of the Health and Human Services Division, says an interim management company will assist in restarting Sullivan County Head Start operations until a long-term solution can be established, but it might take about a month to reopen.
On Friday, February 2, Sullivan County Head Start announced on social media that they were closing until further notice, effective immediately.
The sudden closure left over 300 children and their families without services as well as 83 full-time and 11 part-time employees out of work.
They are a non-for-profit organization, located at State Route 52 in Woodbourne, founded in 1989. They operated Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Sullivan County, and they also have two facilities in Monticello that are also currently closed.
On Radio Chatkill Congressman Marc Molinaro, who represents New York’s 19th District – which includes our listening area – told Tim Bruno that the provider has now relinquished its grant, clearing the way for a new provider to take over.
