Today on Living Jazz, 7/30/21 The Art of the Trio
Friday (the 30th) is the first full day of WJFF’s summer on-air fund drive. In celebration, we’ll explore the ART OF THE TRIO on “Living Jazz,” interspersing classic jazz trio recordings by such greats as Ahmad Jamal, Oscar Peterson, Ornette Coleman, Duke Ellington, Sonny Rollins, and Sam Rivers with the music of local (and near-local) jazz luminaries such as Hal Galper, Fred Hersch, Carla Bley, Joe Lovano, The Diva Jazz Trio, Bill Mays, and Kenny Werner.
As a special treat, we’ll preview the as yet untitled first track of “Instrumental Memory,” pianist Noah Barker’s new quartet album, which is being released this fall. The drummer on the recording is none other than Noah’s father Thurman, so it’s not to be missed. I have a significant matching challenge lined up so initial donations will be doubled!
“Living Jazz” airs Fridays from noon to 2 p.m. on WJFF, 90.5 F.M., and streams online at http://wjffradio.org.
