Maude Bruce was born in the deep south during the Jim Crow ‘40s, committed herself to civil rights after marching with Dr. King in the early ‘60s, lost a son when an off-duty police officer killed him with a chokehold in the ‘80s, and has been president of the Ellenville Chapter of the NAACP for 35 years.
