Listen: Monarch Butterfly Tagging

Posted on September 12, 2020September 12, 2020 by Charles R

The Mamakating Environmental Education & Interpretive Center is holding a monarch tagging session, but don’t bring in any royals you may have laying around that need labeling. They’re talking about monarch butterflies and it’s pretty serious. The butterfly’s population is down due to loss of habitat. Tagging sessions like these are a citizen science effort to get as much info as possible about this valuable pollinator. Jackie Broder, Director of the Mamakating Environmental Education Center, tells the tale of the monarch’s amazing journey each year, the threats facing it, and the importance of pollinators.
