Living Jazz Fridays at Noon, Pianist Kenny Werner

Posted on January 14, 2022January 14, 2022 by Patricio Robayo

This week’s “Living Jazz” show will begin with a bunch of new jazz releases. We’ll start with Lady Blackbird, the extraordinary new rising star vocalist out of L.A., and move on to Brittany Howard singing on Nate Smith’s new “Kinship” album, the great guitarist Lionel Loueke’s interpretation of John Coltrane’s “Naima,” and the pianist Fred Hersch’s new album with the Crosby Street String Band. Oh, and the all-star group The Cookers has a new album out. The highlight of the show will be an interview in the second hour with pianist Kenny Werner, one of our local jazz luminaries, about his new book “Becoming the Instrument: Lessons on Self-Mastery from Music to Life.” The new book expands on the concepts Kenny laid out in “Effortless Mastery,” his guide to accessing the spiritual in everyday life and applying it to the pursuits we love. Kenny has founded and is musical director of The Effortless Mastery Institute at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He lives in S. Fallsburg N.Y. and is an ardent supporter of WJFF and “Living Jazz.”
