Today is “Honesdale Day” in Radio Catskill’s fund drive. Thane Peterson a bunch of other Pennsylvania volunteers, and WJFF program director Jason Dole will be broadcasting from the Cooperage Project studio from 10 a.m. until around 5:30 pm. –From 10 am until noon, Thane will be joined by volunteers Claire Gierwatowski and Kevin Hoffman. At 11:30 we’ll interrupt the “Cafe Jazz” show to interview Arrah Fisher, executive director of the Cooperage Project. One important question: Will the Maple City Jazz Festival return this fall? –From noon to 2 pm, Thane will host “Living Jazz” show with help from Jason and volunteers Vinny Gallo and John Gordon. Thane will play a mix of jazz luminaries with a local connection such as the sax giants Hugh Brodie and Phil Woods, pianist Fred Hersch and drummers Jack DeJohnette and Sherrie Maricle. Added to the mix will be such greats such Herbie Hancock. We’ll start with two Bertolt Brecht/Kurt Weill tunes sung by Ella Fitzgerald and Cecile McLorin Salvant. –Later in the afternoon the wonderful Rosie Starr will be joining Jason at the microphone. Beside hosting this show, Thane does something special every week for WJFF. He is in the Honesdale studio before 6 a.m.most Mondays preparing to open the station at 6 with HIS LIVE VOICE. Toady 12/26 he is there too. People who do this are called ‘openers’ – having someone open the station means that they broadcast the current weather, tell what things are closed, give special announcements. It would be great if the station would return to this practice and start the day with a live person. THANK YOU THANE!
