Focused on musicians who are still alive and contributing to the jazz scene.

Today:  An eclectic hodgepodge of new releases from South Africa, England, and the USA. The main criteria: the music sounds new and innovative.

 

Saturday, June 5 – Farm and Country, with Rosie Starr, at 11:00 a.m.

Rural life in the Catskills and the Delaware River Valley. This week: the solar eclipse; fishing – by hook (Upper Delaware River, early June) and by poets; transplanting pollinator flowers

 

Sunday, June 6 – Folk Plus, with Angela Page, at 4:00 p.m.

Folk Plus: a blend of music from the contemporary folk scene.

Greenwich Village (Part 2) – the early 80’s; the history of MacDougal Street’s Speak Easy

 

Sunday, June 6 – Sunday Stage, at 7:00 p.m.

Local arts, culture, and music performances.

Tonight: Part 1 of Kazzrie Jaxen & Friends at the 2018 Maple City Jazz Fest, in Honesdale, PA.

Kazzrie (piano/vocals) leads a world-class septet through improv jazz interpretations of poems by Rumi.

 

Wednesday, June 9 – Let’s Talk Vets, with Doug Sandberg, at 7:00 p.m.

Doug talks with: Ashton Stewart about SAGEVETS, a NY organization advocating for LGBTQ vets; Ben Pomerance, Deputy Commissioner of NYS Veteran Affairs, on legislative changes affecting vets; Roman Baca, Artistic Director of Exit 12 Dance Company, on how the arts help heal vets suffering from PTS

 

Friday, June 11 – Living Jazz, with Thane Peterson, at 12:00 p.m.

Focused on musicians who are still alive and contributing to the jazz scene. Today:  Trumpets! – Miles, Roy Hargrove, Bruce Davis, and others; and a tribute to drummer Ralph Peterson, who died on March 1st

This week: the latest VA updates; a walk across America to highlight homelessness and suicide among Vets; “The Mission Continues” – serving under-resourced communities

Americana roots music: alt-country, early rock, folk… This week: the VINYL edition – an all-vinyl playlist of LP’s and 45’s – sounds too good to be true!

* Wednesday, June 30 – “Fifty and Forward: An Anniversary Celebration of NPR,” at 7:00 p.m.  A special program in honor of NPR’s 50th anniversary. NPR grew up alongside a post-Watergate journalism ethos that shaped the media industry for decades. Hosted by Audie Cornish, this program tells the story of NPR’s history in the context of the growth of modern media.
