Callicoon Bridge to Close for 48 Hours for Concrete Work

Posted on August 8, 2025 by Tim Bruno

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) announced the Callicoon Bridge — officially known as Interstate Bridge #7 — will be closed to all traffic for about 48 hours starting at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12.

The bridge spans the Delaware River, linking Bridge Street in the hamlet of Callicoon, Sullivan County, with State Route 1016 in Damascus Township, Pennsylvania. The temporary closure will allow crews to complete a concrete pour as part of ongoing maintenance work.

The 960-foot-long bridge, built in 1961, is a steel, multi-girder structure jointly maintained by state transportation departments in New York and Pennsylvania. Both states and the federal government are funding its current $17.8 million rehabilitation. Work is scheduled to finish in 2027.

Officials note that the closure is dependent on weather and crew availability. If necessary, work will be rescheduled for Wednesday, August 13.

During the closure, emergency vehicles will be permitted to cross with assistance from flaggers stationed at both ends of the bridge. Pedestrians and bicyclists will also be allowed access.

NYSDOT reminds drivers to slow down and move over for highway workers. For updates and real-time travel information, call 511, visit 511NY.org, or use the free 511NY mobile app.
