The Callicoon Depot launches its 2026 season with an Earth Day themed event on April 25, featuring local organizations, nature walks and a hamlet-wide cleanup.
Groups include Farm Arts Collective, Delaware Highlands Conservancy and Damascus Citizens for Sustainability. Local naturalist Nathaniel Whitmore will lead plant-focused walks.
The event also ties into the Upper Delaware Council Litter Sweep, with volunteers cleaning up around the hamlet.
Elizabeth Green, a member of the Callicoon Depot Board of Directors, said the event marks the beginning of a broader effort to transform the historic depot into a year-round gathering space.
“The eventual goal will be a visitor center,” she said. “We’re trying to invite the community. The building will be open — you get to come inside. And while it’s still in renovation mode, it’s a very interesting building.”
The depot, once an active train station in the hamlet’s center, is being reimagined as a community hub while retaining its historic character. The all-volunteer board is currently pursuing grants and donations to support ongoing renovations.
