Carbon Monoxide Exposure in Wurtsboro Claims One Life, Two Hospitalized

Posted on November 20, 2024November 20, 2024 by Patricio Robayo

A tragic incident in Wurtsboro, NY, on the morning of November 18, 2024, claimed one life and left two others hospitalized following exposure to carbon monoxide. At approximately 9:27 a.m., New York State Police responded to a report of a possible gas leak at a location on Gumaer Falls Road.

The victims were identified as Baoli Xu, 55, and Haijun Wang, 63, both residents of Wurtsboro, and a 66-year-old man from Flushing, whose name has been withheld pending family notification. The 66-year-old victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Xu and Wang were found unconscious within the building and were promptly evacuated. Lifesaving measures by troopers and Wurtsboro EMS stabilized both victims. Xu was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, while Wang was transported to Ellenville Hospital. Both are now reported to be in stable condition.

The Wurtsboro Fire Department quickly disconnected the building’s fuel sources, effectively clearing the area and preventing further exposure.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
