WALLKILL, N.Y. — A circus performer was injured after being struck by an arrow during a performance at the Orange County Fair on Thursday night, according to New York State Police.
Troopers assigned to the fair responded at about 9:30 p.m. July 24 to a report that circus personnel had been injured during a performance at the Orange County Fair, located at 239 Wisner Ave. in the town of Wallkill. Investigators with the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Middletown also responded.
According to a preliminary investigation, Ana B. Daza Tavera, 42, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, was performing with Edwin A. Cuervo Rangel, 38, also of Waukesha, during a show for spectators. Police said Daza Tavera shot an arrow at a foam target that Cuervo Rangel was holding when the arrow struck him, causing injuries.
Cuervo Rangel was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, where he was reported to be in stable condition, police said.
State police said the investigation remains ongoing.
The Orange County Fair opened Thursday and is scheduled to run through Aug. 2.
