Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado has suspended his campaign for governor, along with his running mate, India Walton.
In a press release, Delgado said he ended the bid after determining there is “no viable path forward,” but pledged to continue working to build what he called a more humane, affordable and equitable New York and to support Democrats statewide.
As reported by the New York Public News Network’s Samuel King, Delgado had been challenging Gov. Kathy Hochul for the Democratic nomination and received about 15 percent of the vote at last week’s party convention in Syracuse. He had previously said he would try to petition his way onto the June primary ballot.
In his statement, Delgado thanked supporters, campaign staff and Walton for joining the ticket. Walton called the experience an honor and said their work together is not over.
Delgado said he will continue serving New Yorkers in his role as lieutenant governor.
