CALICOON, N.Y. — Motorists traveling between Callicoon, New York, and Damascus, Pennsylvania, should plan for another temporary closure of the Callicoon Bridge later this week as work continues on the bridge rehabilitation project.
The New York State Department of Transportation said the Callicoon-Damascus Interstate Bridge No. 7 will close to vehicle traffic beginning at approximately 6 a.m. on Thursday, July 23. If weather or other conditions delay the work, the closure will instead begin on Friday, July 24.
The closure is expected to last up to 48 hours and is anticipated to be the final temporary full closure of the 2026 construction season.
The bridge spans the Delaware River, connecting Bridge Street in the hamlet of Callicoon in Sullivan County, New York, with State Route 1016 in Damascus Township, Pennsylvania.
The temporary closure will allow construction crews to continue installing concrete on newly constructed bridge spans as part of a $17.8 million rehabilitation project that is scheduled for completion this fall.
During the closure, motorists, including commercial and freight traffic, should follow posted detours and messages displayed on New York State Department of Transportation variable message signs. Pedestrian and bicycle access across the bridge will remain open.
The Callicoon Bridge is connects Sullivan County, New York, and Wayne County, Pennsylvania. Transportation officials say the project will improve the long-term safety and reliability of the crossing.
