Monticello, N.Y. — Sullivan County officials are asking residents and business owners to weigh in on an updated Hazard Mitigation Plan aimed at preparing communities for natural disasters and other emergencies.
The County, working with the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, is updating the plan to identify risks, evaluate vulnerabilities and develop strategies to reduce the impacts of future disasters.
“It’s crucial that we get feedback from local residents and businesspeople,” Project Manager and County Planner Justin Rocque said in a statement. “This plan is designed to reduce the impact of catastrophes, when they occur, and will permit the County to access crucial federal and State funds that can offset the economic impacts that follow these disasters.”
County officials said that after state review, local towns and villages will be asked to formally adopt the plan to help coordinate hazard response efforts across Sullivan County.
“We are asking all the residents of Sullivan County to review the final draft of the plan and give feedback,” Planning Commissioner Heather Brown said in a statement. “The projects and information included in the Plan will allow your communities to remain eligible for grant funding opportunities to minimize losses from natural disasters. The Public Review Period is open only until June 6, 2026, so don’t miss this last chance to have your voice heard! Your support and responses are appreciated!”
