Lake Superior State Park Opens for Summer Season

Posted on May 19, 2025 by Tim Bruno

Bethel, NY – Lake Superior State Park will open for the summer season on Memorial Day Weekend, May 24, offering picnicking, boat rentals, and swimming for the public. The park will be open every weekend through the end of June from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Daily operation will begin on June 21 and continue through September 1. The park’s hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday through Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, weather permitting.

Park admission is $5 per person. Children under three years old and veterans with valid identification from the Sullivan County Return the F.A.V.O.R. program are admitted free. The park also participates in the Golden Park Program, granting free admission to New York State residents aged 62 and older on weekdays (excluding weekends and holidays). Season passes are available for Sullivan County residents for $15 and provide proof of residency. Passes can be purchased at the park or the Parks, Recreation & Beautification office in the County Government Center.

“We are excited to have new boats available to rent for this season!” said Assistant Recreation Director Fiona Feltman. Pedal boats, rowboats, single and double kayaks, and canoes are available for rent at $8 per hour, with a $20 security deposit per boat.

Picnic pavilions are also available for rent. For more information, contact the Parks, Recreation & Beautification office at 845-807-0287 or SCParks@sullivanny.gov.

Lake Superior State Park is operated by Sullivan County in partnership with the Palisades Interstate Park Commission.
