Middeltown, NY — The New York State Police has appointed Major Christopher M. Kyle as the 21st commander of Troop F, effective March 26, 2026.
Kyle will oversee all State Police patrol and investigative operations across Rockland, Orange, Ulster, Sullivan and Greene counties, leading more than 500 sworn and civilian personnel.
Kyle joined the State Police in 2005 and was initially assigned to Troop K following training. Over his career, he has held a range of operational and leadership roles, including service with the agency’s Special Operations Response Team.
He was promoted to sergeant and served at State Police Dover and State Police Rhinebeck, later becoming station commander in Rhinebeck. In 2018, he was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to Troop NYC Bridges and Tunnels. He was promoted to captain in 2022 and served as Zone 3 commander within Bridges and Tunnels.
In 2023, Kyle transferred to Troop F as Zone 3 captain, overseeing operations in Ulster and Greene counties. He was later promoted to major and selected to lead Troop F.
State Police officials said Kyle brings extensive operational experience and leadership to the role and is committed to advancing public safety and supporting the communities served by the agency.
