WAWARSING, N.Y. — An 18-year-old Spring Glen man was killed in a motorcycle crash on State Route 52 in the Town of Wawarsing on the evening of July 2, according to the New York State Police.
Troopers from the State Police barracks in Ellenville responded to the fatal collision at approximately 7:19 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2024 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling westbound on Route 52 at an unsafe speed when, for unknown reasons, the operator lost control. Police said the motorcycle slid on its side, crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with a 2021 Toyota before sliding underneath the vehicle.
Investigators said the driver of the Toyota attempted to avoid the motorcycle by steering to the right, crossing over roadway hazard markings and striking a rock barrier.
The motorcyclist, identified by police as Ryan M. Conklin, 18, of Spring Glen, was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota, Kimberly A. Gage, 57, of Pine Bush, and two passengers — a 77-year-old woman and a 79-year-old man, both of Milford, Pennsylvania — were transported to Ellenville Regional Hospital with minor injuries, according to police.
The investigation remains ongoing.
State police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has information relevant to the investigation to contact the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Ellenville at (845) 344-5300 and reference case number NY2600825120.
