New York State Police are offering free child passenger car seat checks this week at the Delaware County Fair in Walton.
Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be available from noon to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, through Saturday, Aug. 22, at the fairgrounds, located at 12 Fair Street.
Technicians will inspect car seats, check for proper installation, answer questions and provide guidance to parents and caregivers.
No appointment is necessary, although appointments are encouraged. To schedule a check, call New York State Police Troop C Traffic at 607-561-7400.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring their child, if possible, as well as the car seat’s manual and the vehicle owner’s manual. State Police also recommend allowing enough time for the inspection.
The agency says proper car seat use can significantly reduce the risk of injury in a crash and encourages parents and caregivers to take advantage of the free service.
