NY School Budget Vote: Results Are In

Posted on May 20, 2026May 20, 2026 by Kimberly Izar

New York voters headed to the polls on Tuesday to decide on their local school district budgets and board elections for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.

Voters across the state approved 96 percent of proposed school district budgets, according to preliminary results compiled by the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA). A total of 633 district budgets were approved, while 28 were defeated.

“We have become accustomed to seeing high budget approval rates every year because voters recognize the importance of public education and that school boards take their responsibilities as stewards of their schools very seriously,” said NYSSBA Executive Director Robert Schneider. “The school budget creation process was especially difficult this year because with the late state budget, school boards had to guess at how much education aid they would receive from the state.”

Here are the results for Sullivan County school districts, along with a few other school districts across the Catskills we were watching.

All results are considered preliminary until approved by the district’s board of education.
