CALLICOON, N.Y. — Callicoon Depot Inc., working with the Callicoon Business Association and the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway, is seeking contractor bids for the first phase of renovations at the historic Callicoon railway station on Main Street.
Project contract documents have been completed, and the organization is now beginning the process of retaining a general contractor. Interested contractors can request a proposal by emailing allaboard@thecallicoondepot.org. Submissions are due March 11, 2026. Details on pre-submission site visits are included in the request for proposals.
Phase 1, designed by Bade Stageberg Cox Architecture, focuses on interior renovations, excluding the former freight room. The work includes upgrades to the main lobby, entrances and existing restrooms, along with restoration of the former ticket office, waiting room and telegraph office.
Once completed, the renovated space will house offices and a visitor center for the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway and provide shared community-use spaces.
Future phases of the project, which are still seeking additional funding, would renovate the freight room, continue exterior rehabilitation and improve the surrounding site, including construction of a public plaza in front of the stage. Donations of time and funding from the community are being accepted.
Callicoon Depot Inc. is planning events for 2026, with public programming set to begin in April. The organization typically hosts open houses on the last Saturday of each month from April through September, with a final open house during ArtWalk weekend.
Additional events planned for the year include Callicoon Business Association-sponsored activities such as Country Fair in July, ArtWalk in October and Dickens on the Delaware in December. Operation Toy Train is also expected to return on the first Sunday in December. A Depot Market is scheduled for the second Saturday of each month from May through November.
