Public Input to Sullivan Hazard Mitigation Plan

Posted on December 28, 2025 by btdemarest D

Sullivan County’s planners seek public input on an update to its Hazard Mitigation Plan.

In cooperation with New York State’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (NYSDHSES), the County is in the midst of updating its hazard response plan so that local communities together identify risks, evaluate vulnerabilities and develop strategies to reduce those risks.

It’s crucial that we get feedback from local residents and businesspeople,” notes Project Manager and County Planner Justin Rocque. “This plan prepares us for catastrophes and will permit the County to access crucial federal and State funds that can offset the economic impacts that follow these disasters.”

Following review by the State, local towns and villages will be asked to formally adopt the Plan, so that everyone is on the same page when responding to hazards.

How to Participate

Sullivan County developed a Public Preparedness Survey, which can be answered quickly and anonymously: https://forms.office.com/r/wvs9v9m66R

Also, stakeholders from local utilities, transportation companies, businesses, emergency services and health/medical providers are invited to weigh in on capabilities, vulnerabilities and potential projects:
