Rockland Central School District Director of Special Services Lauren Nielsen has taken on the additional role of interim superintendent, effective July 1.
Nielsen has served the district since 2009, when she began as a special education teacher and social studies teacher at Livingston Manor Middle High School. She became director of Special Services in 2018. Prior to joining the district, she served as a middle and high school special education teacher at Sullivan County BOCES.
She holds a bachelor of arts in education from Mount Saint Mary College, a master of science in literacy from Mercy College and a master of science in educational leadership from Long Island University. She also holds a School District Leadership Certificate from New York state.
“During my time as interim superintendent I am committed to facilitating a seamless transition that promotes student success, while strengthening the partnership between families, schools and the community where communication and collaboration are supported,” Nielsen said.
Her appointment runs through Aug. 31 unless terminated earlier by the board.
The district’s search for a permanent superintendent is ongoing.
