The newly unified Rockland Central School District has officially adopted the Wolves as its mascot and purple and black as its school colors, following a months-long process centered on student input and community engagement.
The decision marks a major milestone in the district’s transition following the merger of Livingston Manor and Roscoe Central Schools. At a Board of Education meeting on June 10, school leaders formally approved the new branding, chosen through a process that began with a district-wide invitation for input.
Superintendent John Evans called the announcement “an exciting time for our community, especially our students.”
The district first asked students, families, and community members to share the values and characteristics they hoped the new identity would represent. Words like resilience, strength, unity, and pride emerged as common themes. Those ideas informed two community surveys that collected suggestions for both the mascot and color scheme.
To guide the process, the district formed the Rockland Branding Work Group, a committee that included students, staff, families, and community stakeholders. The group reviewed the survey results and narrowed the selections to two finalists in each category.
In the final round, only students were invited to vote — a move designed to empower young people to shape their shared identity. The winning choices: the Wolves, symbolizing strength and teamwork, and the bold color combination of purple and black.
District officials say the next phase of the branding process is already underway. The Rockland Central School District plans to unveil an official logo ahead of the 2025-26 school year.
