Sustainable Energy Education and Development Support (SEEDS) is launching a free, summer-long program to help homeowners reduce energy use and lower utility bills through personalized guidance and in-home assessments.
The Home Energy Efficiency Assessment Program will run from May through the end of August, offering one-on-one support that begins with a review of a household’s energy use. SEEDS staff will work with participants to examine energy bills, complete a basic efficiency checklist and identify low-cost steps to cut waste.
Homeowners who opt to continue can receive an in-home assessment. While not a professional energy audit, the walkthrough provides a written list of tailored recommendations based on conditions in the home.
“This program is about meeting people where they are,” said Michele Long, development director at SEEDS. “Many residents want to save energy and money but feel overwhelmed by technical information or costly upgrades. Our goal is to make energy efficiency approachable, understandable, and achievable.”
Assessments focus on common factors that influence energy use, including air leaks, insulation, moisture control, ventilation, lighting, water use and household habits. Suggested improvements may include sealing small air gaps, adjusting thermostat settings and switching to more efficient lighting.
Participation is free, and there is no requirement to make upgrades or purchase services. SEEDS does not sell products or perform repairs.
Appointments are limited during the summer. Homeowners can learn more or sign up at www.seedsgroup.net/energy-efficiency or by calling 570-241-1256. Phone registration is available for residents without internet access.
SEEDS is a nonprofit organization that promotes energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable living through education and community-based programs.
