State police say a traffic stop along a Sullivan County highway led to the arrest of a Woodridge man on felony drug charges.
According to New York State Police, troopers assigned to the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit were patrolling State Route 17 in the Town of Rockland on the evening of February 5 when they observed a 2025 Jeep traveling westbound and committing multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. The stop occurred around 8:37 p.m.
Troopers identified the driver as Kevin A. Alvarez, 39, the sole occupant of the vehicle. During the stop, a K-9 unit conducted an exterior sniff of the Jeep. Police say the dog alerted to the possible presence of narcotics, prompting a further investigation.
A search of Alvarez’s person allegedly uncovered about 103 grams of cocaine and roughly $2,093 in cash. No additional contraband was found inside the vehicle, police said.
Alvarez was taken into custody and transported to State Police headquarters in Liberty for processing. Authorities say he cooperated with troopers and no incident was reported during the arrest.
He has been charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree — one for narcotics possession and one for possession with intent to sell — both Class B felonies under New York law. He also received multiple traffic citations.
Alvarez was arraigned in Fallsburg Town Court and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear next in Rockland Town Court on February 17 at 9 a.m.
